The Monster Tomato in Mugla (1 October)

Mugla, 11 October. On the tenth day of the tour, the tomato arrived in Mugla, a small city in the South-West of Turkey. Local activists had already collected signatures in the week before the arrival of the 'touring-team'. Moreover, the city was already full of posters of the platform 'GDO'ya  HAYIR' (NO TO GMOs) on the day of our arrival.

More than 3000 signatures against GMOs have been collected in Mugla, thanks to the work of local activists. Interestingly, the petition against GMOs was co-signed by the mayor of Mugla. The mayor also gave interviews in front of the tomato to the local press, that showed up in considerable numbers during the press conference.

Thanks to the work of the platform and to the Monster tomato a public debate on GMOs has started. Also the Turkish media have continuously reported about the tour and the risks of GMOs over the last two weeks.
