Tarsus, 15 October. Tarsus, between the cities of Adana and Mersin, is an important centre for agriculture and industry, as well as an important centre for CUKUROVA culture from 7000 BC until today.
On the 15 October, local environmental organisations, member of the not to GMO platform, hosted the Monster Tomato. The collection of signatures had started a few days before the arrival of the Monster Tomato. The ambience of the action was very festive. Many supporters -coming from neighbouring towns and villages - arrived to the point by buses. The activist delivered more than one ton of organic eggplants to the public. With this act, the local activist wanted to catch the public attention and send the message that the local food is better than GM food. At the end of the day over 5000 signatures were collected.
The local media showed a big interest in the visit of the tomato again. Furthermore, national TV channels (including the state TV, TRT) are regularly having some spots about the GM plants and GM foods these days in Turkey.
