Climate Change Campaign
Climate change could trigger an unprecedented global economic, social and environmental disaster. FoEE campaigns against Europe's "Carbon Dinosaurs" who perpetuate our dependence on fossil fuels, prevent effective action on climate change and block our way to a sustainable future of renewable energies, increased energy efficiency and a reduction in total energy demand.
  Biotechnology Programme and
European GMO Campaign

The risk of GMO contamination of organic/conventional farming is a real concern. FoEE works to secure strict EU legislation on GMO releases, traceability and labelling of GM food, legal liability for GM producers and the right for people to say NO to GMOs.
  Trade, Environment and
Sustainability Programme

The EU plays a key political role in international trade. With transnational corporations influencing the EU's trade agenda, and the untransparent and undemocratic nature of the WTO, FoEE keeps a close eye on decision-makers to ensure the development of a fair, sustainable and democratic global trading system.

1 Million Europeans against nuclear power
Thanks to the incorrect claim that nuclear power does not contribute to climate change, the nuclear machine (industry and supporters) has been encouraged to rear its ugly head again. In more and more European countries plans for a nuclear comeback are under discussion, and in Finland the first new reactor in Western Europe since 1991 is under construction.

  Billions for Sustainability Campaign
Representing more than one third of the EU's budget, the Structural and Cohesion funds are fundamentally shaping the long-term development of the new member states in Central and Eastern Europe. Our aim is to make sure that the billions are spent efficiently, in a transparent manner and that they contribute to sustainable development.

The massive expansion of agrofuels to supply fuel for Europe's cars and power stations could come at a high environmental and social costs. FoE is campaigning for Europe to drop its mandatory 10% target and to force the automobile industry to clean up their cars.

Corporate Accountability Campaign
Big multinational companies are the main drive behind the current neo liberal ideology of privatisation, liberalisation of markets and thediminishing role of governments. FoEE's campaign aims at exposing the harmful impacts of corporate led globalization and corporate power and is campaigning for legally binding international standards to stop corporate abuses.
  Safer Chemicals Campaign
Almost anything you buy - soap, a computer, perfume, furniture - will contain a mixture of substances produced in a chemical factory. More and more research is suggesting that some chemicals are threatening our health with a new kind of pollution. Draft legislation (known as REACH - Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) is in danger of being too weak to properly protect consumers and the environment.
  Mediterranean Programme
FoEE has built a MedNet group which includes Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia. This group works closely with regional and local governments to promote sustainable development.

Safe Energy: Abolish Euratom Campaign
The risks and hazards of nuclear power are well known and undisputed.
Our campaign focuses on abolishing the Euratom Treaty which has promoted and supported nuclear energy in Europe since 1957.  Thousands of local groups all around Europe are joining in a public awareness raising drive to commemorate the Chernobyl disaster 20 years on.

  Europe's future Constitution
A new Constitution for Europe should be agreed during 2003. FoEE is working with other environmental groups to ensure sustainable development and the environment figure as top priorities for the new Europe.
  Food and Farming:
Time to Choose!

Europe's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) remains a major cause of environmental and social destruction giving incentives to highly intensive large scale farming. FoEE's campaign aims to channel the necessary public support for urgent CAP reform.

EU Vote Watch Campaign
In June 2004 Europe voted for a new European Parliament. FoEE's EU Vote Watch website allows everyone to see how each individual parliamentarian, from the previous Parliament, voted on important environmental issues.

In the run up to the Earth Summit in Johannesburg last August, FoE mobilised people around the world to send a strong message to politicians: give priority to people and the environment. FoE advocates global rules that bring corporations to account.   Sustainable Societies
FoEE has been heavily involved in
developing the Sustainable Development Strategy of the EU. The goal remains to ensure that sustainable development and environment are given priority in EU policy making.

Environmental Impacts of the Israel-Hizbullah war, 2006

Friends of the Earth is participating since the early days to the European and World Social Forum, and works actively on a further integration of the environmental concerns into the alter-globalisation debate.   Bite Back - WTO/GMO Trade Dispute Campaign
George Bush, backed by the US biotech industry, is using the WTO to force genetically modified food and farming into European and world markets. Through Citizen's Objections, FoEE demands that the WTO dismiss the complaint and not undermine people's right to say no.
In Lebanon in mid July 2006,15,000-30.000 tons of heavy fuel spilled into the Mediterranean Sea after Israeli warplanes bombed an oil-fuelled power plant of located directly on the coastline about 30 kilometres south of Beirut. Friends of the Earth Europe pushed for the EU and the United Nations to help clear up the mess.
