Cars account for around 12% of total European emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) - the principal greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. In 2008, the European Parliament is discussing a proposal for an EU regulation setting CO2 emission standards for passenger cars. We are urging the EU to agree on tough targets for reducing the fuel consumption of new cars. |

Climate change could trigger an unprecedented global economic, social and environmental disaster. FoEE campaigns against Europe's "Carbon Dinosaurs" who perpetuate our dependence on fossil fuels, prevent effective action on climate change and block our way to a sustainable future of renewable energies, increased energy efficiency and a reduction in total energy demand. |

The EEurope is using an ever-increasing amount of the world's resources, and is now more dependent on imported resources than any other global region. The Earth’s ability to sustain this pattern of consumption is already being pushed to the limit. But Europe’s dependence on imported resources also makes it economically vulnerable, with the extraction and processes of these resources having both social and environmental impacts.

The EU plays a key political role in international trade. With transnational corporations influencing the EU's trade agenda, and the untransparent and undemocratic nature of the WTO and bilateral trade agreements, FoEE keeps a close eye on decision-makers to ensure the development of a fair, sustainable and democratic global trading system. |

Friends of the Earth Europe is committed to reversing Europe's "throw-away" culture. We are campaigning to save the Earth's precious natural resources. We firmly believe in reducing the amount of waste produced in the first place, reusing products wherever possible and then recycling materials rather than dumping them in landfill or burning them in incinerators. |
