EU legislation The EU is debating two new pieces of legislation that will affect the introduction of agrofuels. The existing Biofuels Directive (EC/2003/30) will be amended to incorporate a mandatory target of 10% by 2020 and a Fuel Quality Directive will be introduced to reduce the climate impacts of all transport fuels. January - European Commission makes proposals for a new Energy Policy for Europe, including a binding 10% target for the share of biofuels in petrol and diesel in 2020. The Commission also proposed new standards for transport fuels that will reduce their contribution to climate change and air pollution, including through greater use of biofuels. 2006 December - European Parliament adopts resolution on biomass and biofuel strategy February - European Commission publishes a communication on an EU Biofuels Strategy 2005 December - European Commission adopts an Action Plan designed to increase the use of energy from forestry, agriculture and waste materials 2003 EU Biofuels Directive introduces voluntary 2% target by 2005 and 5.75% target by 2010.
