Take Action: Are you funding climate chaos?

FoE Europe and Fair Pensions are asking for your support to stop the development of tar sands.

Efforts to tackle climate change are under threat from decisions being made in the next few weeks. Very soon, shareholders in BP (April 15th) and Shell (May 18th) will get to vote for - or against - a resolution on tar sands. You have the opportunity to influence their vote.

Tar sands - a naturally occurring mixture of sand or clay, water and an extremely dense and viscous form of petroleum called bitumen - cause more damage to the climate than conventional oil. The greenhouse gas emissions of converting tar sands into fuel is three to five times higher than for conventional oil. The pollution, deforestation and wildlife disturbance associated with tar sands developments also threaten the traditional livelihoods and wellbeing of indigenous communities.

If you are a pension holder it is highly likely that your pension provider has substantial shareholdings held on your behalf, either in Shell of other companies involved in (or considering becoming involved in) tar sands developments.
The resolutions are already supported by some major investors but we need you to use the power of your pension or savings to force a review of this damaging and risky activity.

You can express your concerns directly to your pension provider or (if you don't have one) by emailing one of Shell and BP largest shareholders from the same page.

If your pension fund is not listed in the action's database, you will be given the option of notifying FairPensions of this. FairPensions will then look up for your pension fund details, update you and let you know when you can send your message.

Follow the Take Action Now link below and demand the stop of tar sands!
