Democratic Europe Together we can build a more caring, more equal, greener society

14 November 2018

Since 2015, Zelena akcija/Friends of the Earth Croatia has been involved in the national Refugees Welcome Initiative. Together they have been organising numerous activities to fight increasing xenophobia in the media and public on one hand, and police border violence towards refugees, criminalisation of solidarity and human rights activists on the other. In a joint guerrilla action last week, refugees' testimonies shook up Zagreb's citizens. Marija Mileta from Zelena akcija/Friends of the Earth Croatia and the „Welcome!” Initiative tells us the whole story.

Today – on a global day of action to end poverty, reduce inequalities, and tackle climate change – a coalition of civil society organisations has launched a manifesto with core demands for the political leadership of the EU and the candidates in the 2019 European Elections.

People across Europe face common problems – from inequality to discrimination, and unhealthy environments. These issues will not be solved by retreating into nationalism and division.

We can create more caring, democratic, equal, inclusive societies when we work together for the good of people and communities all over Europe.
