NATIONAL ICON KIDNAPPED!

On October 4th , Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) did an action outside the castle where environmental ministers meet in preparation of COP6.

Hans Brinker, otherwise known as the boy who saved Holland from flooding by putting his finger in a hole in the dike and Friends of the Earth paid a visit to the environmental ministers gathered in Muiden today. From the dike around the Muidercastle, Hans and Friends of the Earth called on the 35 ministers to take concrete action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hans Brinker disappeared from his usual spot in front of the miniature Holland attraction, Madurodam, in the night of 28 September. He reappeared in Muiden today while trying to hold back a huge stream of water coming out of the castle dike. Dike builders lent him a helping hand with sandbags.

Hans is expected to return to The Hague soon took take part in the international climate conference, COP6.

On Oct. 5th Milieudefensie and other Dutch organisations taking part in the climate campaign are also making an action outside the ministers meeting, which involving polar bears pacing back and forth.
