European poll shows considerable concern about EU ethics

A majority of people across Europe are concerned about ethics and lobbying in European Union policy-making, and want better regulation of lobbyists, as well as increased transparency of the EU, according to a new opinion poll. [1]

Weaknesses found in MEP ethics rules

New ethics rules in the European Parliament are not strict enough to ensure complete transparency on MEPs' outside interests, and therefore prevent potential conflicts of interest, shows the first analysis of declarations made under the code of conduct. [1]

The research conducted by Friends of the Earth Europe, and released today, reveals weaknesses in the new declaration system introduced in January in response to last year's 'cash for law' scandal. [2]

Parliament must be strict on ethics code

Brussels, March 20 - Today marks the first anniversary of the 'cash-for-amendments' scandal, in which several Members of the European Parliament were exposed tabling legislative amendments in exchange for money [1]. Ethics campaigners warn that the new code introduced since the scandal does not include all the safeguards necessary to prevent another 'lobbygate'.
