One week before the European Union's new chemicals legislation - REACH - enters into force (1 June 2007) , European environmental, women's, health and consumer groups have warned in an open letter to the European Commission that REACH cannot be celebrated until it is strengthened to provide proper health and environmental protection.

Brussels/Costa Rica, 23 April 2007 - Friends of the Earth groups in Europe and Costa Rica today called on EU Ministers not to authorize the European Commission to negotiate new bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with Southern countries.
Brussels, 30 November - Friends of the Earth Europe today submitted a complaint to the European Public Affairs Consultancies Association (EPACA), accusing well-known lobbyist David Earnshaw of a conflict of interest between his work lobbying for pharmaceutical clients and his role as an "independent expert" advising the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee.  EPACA's Code of Conduct requires public affairs practitioners to avoid any conflicts of interest.
Brussels, 17th October - Today, Friends of the Earth Europe and the Seattle to Brussels Network demanded that the European Union stops making policy decisions biased towards business interests. Trade and environmental campaigners staged an action outside the annual back-pat of the Confederation of European Business (UNICE) today , attended by six European Commissioners and called "Why do companies care about Europe?".
Brussels, June 1 2006 - Today, Friends of the Earth Europe launched their new report "Transparency in EU decision making: reality or myth?". The report analyses current codes of conduct for lobbyists and EU officials and reveals a worrying lack of transparency in several key areas.
Brussels, 6 November - Online voting began today for the second annual "Worst EU Lobby Awards", organised by Corporate Europe Observatory, Friends of the Earth Europe, LobbyControl and Spinwatch . The nominations reveal five "true masters of spin and manipulation" and five "not-so-neutral EU officials".
