Food sovereignty is the right of people to define their own food, agriculture, livestock and fisheries systems and policies.
This means that they must be able to protect and regulate domestic agricultural production and trade, and determine the extent to which they want to be self-sufficient. It also means not dumping cheap imported products onto local markets and in third countries, and stands in contrast to having food supply largely subject to international market forces.
