Brussels, 23 April 2009 – A shared transparency register and code of conduct for lobbyists proposed
by the European Parliament and Commission  will fail to shed more light on lobbying in Brussels transparency campaigners warned today.
The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU) welcomes the principle of a joint register but believes the proposal unveiled yesterday is seriously flawed and means EU citizens will have to wait longer for credible and meaningful lobbying transparency.
Brussels, 9 December -- The winners of the 2008 Worst EU Lobbying Awards have been revealed at a ceremony in Brussels today, despite a last minute attempt to gag the organisers with legal action from one of the candidates. More than 8500 people took part in the online public vote .

Brussels, Monday 20 October - Business lobby groups, MEPs and Commission officials are all under scrutiny in the shortlist for this year's Worst EU Lobbying Awards, published today (Monday 20th October).
Members of the public are now invited to vote for the most deceptive lobbying and the most biased decision-makers at www.worstlobby.eu to select the Worst EU Lobby of 2008 and the Worst Conflict of Interest 2008.
Nominations are now open for the Worst EU Lobbying Awards 2008, which this year includes a new category for the Worst Conflict of Interest in the EU.
The Worst EU Lobbying Awards are an important feature on the Brussels' calendar, putting the spotlight on the activities of lobbyists behind closed doors which ultimately undermine democratic decision-making.
Brussels, 23 June 2008 - The voluntary EU lobby register launched today by the Commission is weak and unbalanced, said the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency (ALTER-EU).
"The Commission started off over three years ago with worthy ideas for an EU lobby register, but the end product is proof that commercial lobbyists have excessive influence in Brussels. We sincerely hope the Commission's flawed register will quickly be replaced by a better one that ensures real transparency," said Jorgo Riss of ALTER-EU.
Brussels, 3 June 2008 - The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation in the EU (ALTER-EU) has today written to Commission President Barroso urging him "to intervene and ensure that the Commission's new register for lobbyists will deliver transparency". The appeal by the transparency coalition comes after the Commission's announcement that the long-awaited voluntary register will not include meaningful financial information nor names of lobbyists.
Brussels, May 8 - The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation in the EU (ALTER-EU) welcomes the European Parliament's approval today of the report on "Framework for the activities of lobbyists in the EU institutions". The report sends a strong message to the European Commission by calling for a mandatory register, including lobbyists names, their clients or funders and financial disclosure on registered lobbying activities.
Brussels, May 6 - MEPs are being urged to strengthen a key resolution on lobbying transparency when it comes before the Parliament on Thursday 8 May or risk leaving large areas of lobbying activity unchecked.
