Sustainable EU funds EU Funds have the potential to create more sustainable societies

20 June 2017

More than 250 non-government organisations from across Europe have today released an alternative vision for a more democratic, just and sustainable Europe.

Intended to influence the debate on the future direction of Europe, this alternative vision is endorsed by organisations representing a multitude of public interest issues, including labour rights, culture, development, environment, health, women's rights, youth, and anti-discrimination groups.

Cash that should be flowing into projects that boost environmental sustainability is instead fuelling outdated carbon-intensive projects like motorways, airports, and fossil-fuel infrastructure, according to a new report on Europe's investment plan released today.

Friends of the Earth Europe is monitoring EU Structural and Cohesion funds and campaigning for reform of these investments. We want to see the funds used in ways that aid Europe's transformation to a resource-efficient society - one whose energy consumption is low and based on renewable sources, and where biodiversity is protected.

No harmful social or environmental impacts should be allowed to result from these investments.
